The Totara room is a place where our preschoolers can freely explore and challenge themselves. It is a place where children’s interests are acknowledged and enough open ended resources are provided for them to extend their learning at their own pace and in their own way.  We build on and encourage their self help skills and foster their independence. We value the skills of eco literacy and people literacy as valuable life tools to have.

 

We value school readiness to mean:

• Learning how to be empathetic to the feelings of others

• Learning how to ask for what they need

• Learning how to say no and to stand up for their own needs and rights

• Learning how to negotiate, manage and express their feelings safely

• Learning how to resolve conflict peacefully
